Notes: The bass bite on the Ohio River is starting to heat up in southern Indiana. Water temperature is hovering right around 80 degrees, and a lot of the bass have moved to the deeper water. They are still being found shallow in the early morning and later evening, though. Angler versatility will be a key factor in this event, as many different patterns will play to many different strengths. Spinnerbaits, crankbaits and soft plastics will all be popular baits thrown by anglers in this tournament. The winning angler can expect to bring 15 to 17 pounds to the scales.

    Where: Michigan Division

    Lake St. Clair

    Metro Beach Metropark

    31300 Metro Parkway

    Mount Clemens, Mich.

Notes: The bass bite is very good right now on Lake St. Clair. Largemouth bass are being found both deep and shallow, and the smallmouth bite has really turned on in the past week. The water temperature has really warmed up because of the recent heat wave and is holding steady right around 78 degrees. Anglers fishing shallow are reporting good results throwing crankbaits, while the deep-water anglers are drop-shotting. Twenty-two to 24 pounds is expected to be the winning weight in this event.

    Walmart BFL overview

The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, with 120 tournaments throughout the season, five in each division. The top 40 boaters and co-anglers from each division qualify for a regional tournament and are competing to finish in the top six, which then qualifies them for one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the Walmart BFL All-American presented by Chevy. The 2012 BFL All-American is being held May 17 – 19 on the Potomac River in National Harbor, Md. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the EverStart Series or even the Walmart FLW Tour.
