Notes: Lake Guntersville has seen a very mild winter and is enjoying one of the best winter bass patterns in a long time. Recent reports have lots of 2 to 4 pound bass being caught, with a few over 6 pounds. With the 50 to 60-degree days and water temperatures hovering right around 50 degrees, the grass is still extremely thick for this time of year. Topwater baits, crankbaits, and the Alabama rig should all be popular baits thrown during the tournament. If the weather cooperates and the water clarity is good, it should make for an extremely competitive tournament.
Where: Savannah River Division
Lake Keowee
South Cove County Park
1099 South Cove Road
Seneca, S.C.

Notes: Lake Keowee is also experiencing an unseasonably warm winter, and it has spread out the bass fishing. According to Brad Fowler, a BFL angler since 2000, the lake is 3 to 5 degrees warmer than usual, and bass are being found from as shallow as 6 feet to as deep as 80 feet. Reports are that jigs, soft plastics, and other slow-moving baits are working best in shallow water. Drop-shotting, sinking jerkbaits and shaky-head worms have been producing in deep water. Angler versatility will be one of the keys to victory in this tournament.
The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, with 120 tournaments throughout the season, five in each division. The top 40 boaters and co-anglers from each division qualify for a regional tournament and are competing to finish in the top six, which then qualifies them for one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the Walmart BFL All-American presented by Chevy. The 2012 BFL All-American is being held May 17 – 19 on the Potomac River in National Harbor, Md. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the EverStart Series or even the Walmart FLW Tour.
