HARRISON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – The FLW Bass Fishing League is headed to Lake St. Clair July 31 for the third of five stops in the Michigan Division series. As many as 400 boaters and co-anglers will compete for top awards of up to $8,000 and $3,000, respectively.

“This is going to be the best tournament of the year,” said FLW Tour pro Art Ferguson of St. Clair Shores, Mich., whose favorite body of water is Lake St. Clair. “The weather is stable, lake temperatures are normal to above normal, and the water level is just a tad low, but it won’t impact the fishing which has been really good lately.

“One thing that a lot of people don’t know about Lake St. Clair is that it is a holding area for Lake Huron and Lake Erie so 80-85% of the lake is current influenced which is what makes this lake great. Drop-shotting near moving water with Yamamoto Senkos on a Carolina or Texas rig is going to be key. I also love to tube fish in deep water this time of year. An early morning bite using topwater baits such as spooks or Pop-Rs might work as well.”

Ferguson believes that it will take about 22-24 pounds to win this tournament, especially if the weather holds and it stays nice.

Takeoff and weigh-in will be at Metro Beach Metropark located at 31300 Metro Parkway in Mount Clemens, Mich. Takeoff is scheduled for 6 a.m. while weigh-in will begin at 2 p.m. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.

The Lake St. Clair BFL tournament is being hosted by the Central Macomb County Chamber of Commerce.

Bass Fishing League competition is a 24-division league circuit devoted to weekend anglers, offering bigger prizes to those who qualify for regional championships and those who make it to one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the American Fishing Series or even the FLW Tour.
