I promised myself that I wouldn’t carry any more crankbaits in my boat. In typical Rapala fashion, the company has come up with an easy-to-use lure that catches fish, forcing me to go back on my promise.

Ease

There is something to say about a crankbait that can be taken out of the box and fished without adjustment, but the Trolls-To-Minnow is one. Even the hooks don’t need to be replaced. The VMC black nickel hooks are of a gauge thin enough to hook fish well, yet strong enough that they survive the assault of an aggressive pair of pliers.

Features

The squared lip, flat sides and balsa construction give this lure a unique action. It worked well in the early spring, and the addition of rattles really seemed to make the lure shine in muddy water.

Depth

The thought process behind the Trolls-To-Minnow is that on 10-pound-test monofilament, 100 feet of line out will run the lure to the depth indicated on the box. For example, the size 20 will run 20 feet down with 100 feet of line out. This makes it much easier to know where your lure is trolling. Rapala claims 4-pound-test superline will increase the diving depth by as much as 25 percent.
