Our 5 Favorites From Day 2

ICAST – Hard Bait – Jackall Pompadour – At 3-inches long and ¾ of an ounce the Pompadour is a unique presentation. Hinged sides collapse on the cast to gain distance and fold out to give the bait a crawling action on the surface. It also has a swinging rear hook to minimize fish loss. With the second day of ICAST 2014 now in the books, FLW’s reporters have had plenty of time to scan the show floor for the latest and greatest in tackle innovations. Tomorrow and into next week, we’ll be bringing FLW readers in-depth reviews of the trends that dominated various product categories, with reactions from FLW Tour pros who have just begun to review all the cool new swag. You can also read dozens of new-product reviews in our ICAST photo galleries here at FLWOutdoors.com/ICAST.

As for our favorites from day two, here are five you ought to keep your eye on.

ICAST- Hard Bait – Livingston Howeller Deep Plus – The new Team Livingston Series features everything from topwaters to deep-diving crankbaits and everything in-between. The Howeller Deep Plus is part of the new collection that fits the trend of bigger baits. This beast packs programmable sequences and will run to a depth of nearly 30 feet. LivingstonLures.com

1. Livingston Howeller Deep Plus – Bigger can be better. This holds especially true when fishing ledges. Enter the Howeller Deep Plus. This bad boy runs 30 feet on a long cast, and it has the programmable sound technology Livingston is known for, with four different sounds to choose from. This includes a silent setting, which is a good option for using after you’ve already pulled a few from a ledge and want to extend the action. This bait should see plenty of action next summer when the FLW Tour visits Lake Chickamauga in late June. See more at LivingstonLures.com.

2. Z-Man Pop ShadZ – Imagine a Pop-R mating with a Fluke. The result would probably be pretty similar to what you get in the new Z-Man Pop ShadZ, a soft-plastic popping topwater with a split minnow tail. Rig it with whatever size and brand of worm hook you prefer, then throw it where only frogs have gone before. Best of all, the ElaZtech material that Z-Man uses in its soft plastics is incredibly tough, so you might fish all day without having to change baits. ZManFishing.com has all the specs.

ICAST – Reels – 13 Fishing Concept KP – This is the newest creation from 13 and aimed at the high-end market of anglers. Weighing in at 5.14 ounces the Concept KP incorporates airfoil carbon in the side plate along with a carbon fiber handle and EVA foam knobs to all reduce weight. The reel has 11 ball bearings. $480 13fishing.com

3. 13 Fishing Concept KP – Extremely low weight and a flashy red finish with a matte black skeletal line spool – those are the features of the cool new 13 Fishing Concept KP baitcaster. It weighs just 5.14 ounces, making it one of the lightest reels on the market, and a leader in the continuing race to trim ounces from the modern low-profile baitcaster. Performance is top-end as well thanks to 11 ball bearings. Ever since 13 Fishing came on the scene the company has managed to incorporate high-style design into its products at an affordable price. This one’s aimed at a higher-end crowd, at $480, but its performance should definitely live up to the price tag. Learn more at 13Fishing.com.

4. Jackall Pompadour – It’s not your grandfather’s Jitterbug. The Pompadour has the weight to cast a mile along with the fancy engineering you would expect from Jackall. This thing has metal wings attached with hinges that collapse when you cast it, then open back up on the retrieve to create that classic side-to-side wobbling surface action. A prop on the back adds commotion, while a swinging rear hook helps keep fish buttoned up. The action this bait packs is crazy – it nearly rolls over during the retrieve. Check it out at Jackall-Lures.com.

ICAST - Sunglasses - Costa del Mar walked away with another New Product Showcase Best Eyewear award this year with its Hamlin frames and 580P silver mirror lenses.

5. Costa del Mar Hamlin with 580P Blue Mirror Lenses – These glasses feature 580p polycarbonate lenses that are mirrored, a first for this venerable sunglass company. They’re sharp-looking, lightweight and functional on the water. What more could you ask for in sunglasses? Well, how about camo? Costa has that too, along with a handful of other cool frame finishes. See them all at CostadelMar.com.
