Mai Chau, located in northern Hoa Binh province, has been included in the US-based Business Insider's top 10 incredible places for cultural tours.

The magazine described Mai Chau as a wonderful destination if visitors are interested in a deeper experience of Vietnam with a warm and welcoming population and unspoiled natural beauty.

Tourists can hike the mountains of Sa Pa in the north or sand-surf in the province's central resort town of Mui Ne.

But Mai Chau in Hoa Binh province can be a good choice.

Just three hours outside of the capital Hanoi, Mai Chau is a mountainous region dotted with traditional stilt houses. Two ethnic minority groups - the White Thai and Black Thai - make up the majority of the population, Business Insider reported.

The magazine suggested the best way to immerse yourself in the region is through a homestay with local families. It said visitors can spend two days cycling across mountain trails and through rice fields, visit local villages, and watch a cultural performance by Thai villagers.

Other destinations recommended by Business Insider's list include Santiago in Chile, Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, Marrakech in Morocco, Shanghai in China, Trani in Italy, Budapest in Hungary, Lisbon in Portugal, Bordeaux in France, and Old Delhi in India.

THE SPACE OF GONG CULTURE IN CENTRAL HIGHLANDS (MASTERPIECES OF THE ORAL AND INTANGIBLE HERITAGE OF HUMANITY)

The space of gong culture in Central Highlands of Viet Nam covers 5 provinces of Kon Tum, Gia Lai, Dak Lak, Dak Nong and Lam Dong. The masters of gong culture are the ethnic groups of Ba Na, Xo Dang, M'Nong, Co Ho, Ro Mam, E De, Gia Rai... The gong performances are always closely tied to community cultural rituals and ceremonies of the ethnic groups in Central Highlands. Many researchers have classified gongs as ceremonial musical instrument and the gong sounds as a means to communicate with deities and gods.
The gongs are made of brass alloy or a mixture of brass and gold, silver, bronze. Their diameter is from 20cm to 60cm or from 90cm to 120cm. A set of gongs consists of 2 to 12 or 13 units and even to 18 or 20 units in some places.

In most of ethnic groups, namely Gia Rai, Ede Kpah, Ba Na, Xo Dang, Brau, Co Ho, etc., only males are allowed to play gongs. However, in others such as Ma and M'Nong groups, both males and females can play gongs. Few ethnic groups (for example, E De Bih), gongs are performed by women only.

As for the majority of ethnic groups in Central Highlands, gongs are musical instruments of sacred power. It is believed that every gong is the settlement of a god who gets more powerful as the gong is older. "God of gong" is always considered as the tutelary deity for the community's life. Therefore, gongs are associated to all rites in one's life, such as the inauguration of new houses, funerals, buffalo sacrifice, crop praying rite, new harvest, ceremony to pray for people's and cattle's health, ceremony to see-off soldiers to the front, and the victory celebration.

Vietnam tour company-Mekong delta tours-Paloma junk

However, this time when we visited the coastal city we chose to have a one-day eco-tour to Nha Phu Lagoon.

The lagoon is located in Ninh Hoa District which is 15km north of Nha Trang City and it is where Long Phu Tourist Company major in organizing tours to the lagoon to visit three islands named Hon Thi, Suoi Hoa Lan and Hon Lao (also known as Dao Khi or monkey island)

A bus will pick up tourists at 8 a.m. in the morning to depart for Nha Phu. After an hour tourists will arrive at a wharf for a 20-minute boat ride to Hon Thi where they can feed ostriches and take pictures with spotted deer.

Tourists can leisurely discover gardens and farms on the island for around 20 minutes before coming to the second destination of Suoi Hoa Lan after a 30-minute boat ride. But travelers hoping for another Vinpearl Land will instead have to indulge in nature with a manmade lake sloping around rows of shady trees and bridges crossing the hills some of the main attractions.

There tourists can take photos as they ride on an elephant's or ostrich's back. Those who love trees and flowers can see Que toi (my homeland) village to admire luxuriant vegetable, fruit and flower gardens. Highlights of the tourist site are Hoa Lan stream and Phong Lan cave which have only been established recently.

These places are good for relaxation by the lake and taking pictures. There's a tranquil beach on the island to swim, sunbathe and join in a powered parachute priced at VND250,000 for five minutes or jetski for ten minutes for the same price. There is also skydiving and a chariot ride around the island.

Tourists can also treat themselves to a feast of BBQ seafood at reasonable prices. Next, there is an animal circus featuring performances by bears, dogs, goats and elephants. Final destination Hon Lao is where Russian experts raised monkeys for scientific experiments in the past but now monkeys are used for tourism development.

You can see monkeys doing tricks with dogs or put bets on the dog race.

After visiting the eco tourist sites, tourists will head back to the mainland at around 4:30 p.m. Prices for adults and children are VND380,000 and VND250,000 respectively.
VIR
Travel agency Vietnam- Mekong delta tours- Halong cruise

Travel agency Vietnam- Mekong delta tours- Halong cruise

Chinese food enjoys high reputation in the world not only for its exquisite, delicious taste and charming appearance but also for its sheer abundance. It is due to the diversity of the climate, products and customs that there are widely different food styles and tastes in local regions.

Throughout its long history, Chinese cuisine has played an important role and now is considered an integral part of the nation's traditional culture.

Features

Colorful, aromatic and delicious are characteristics of China's varied cuisines. Wherever you find yourself in China, your senses are tested to the extreme whilst enjoying the unusual dishes, often unique for the area you are visiting.

Chinese cuisine's entree normally strives for three to five colors, made up of the main ingredient, with more secondary ingredients of contrasting colors and textures. These are prepared and cooked to enhance their own qualities, with the use of appropriate condiments and garnishing, enabling the chef to present a delicious platter of fragrant delicious art.

In prepared dishes, the stronger fragrant aroma stimulates one's appetite, by using scallion, fresh ginger, root garlic or chili pepper, with the use of wine, aniseed, cinnamon, peppercorn or sesame oil. Complementary nuances are added. Soy sauce, sugar, vinegar and other seasonings may be used discreetly, adding to the complex play on the taste buds.

All chefs of the Chinese kitchens, professional or in the home, strive for harmony of sight, smell, taste, texture, so that each individual dish has it's unique features highlighted; contrasted and balanced if it is a dinner of many dishes, be it 3, 6, 9 or 12. The flavors must not overpower, yet subtle enough to meet the tastes of those dining. Complex or simple dishes may be prepared quickly or much longer, but the ultimate goal is to share with the guests the play on the eaters' real and imagined visions of the dishes and its ingredients.

A further point is that over festive periods, with the play of word's phonetics, well meaning felicitous names of dishes have many people trying to guess what they are about to eat, thereby adding fun to eating.

Eight cuisines

China covers a large territory and has many nationalities, hence there is a wide variety of Chinese foods, each with quite different but fantastic and mouthwatering flavors. Because China's local dishes have their own typical characteristics, Chinese food can be divided into eight regional cuisines, the distinction of which is now widely accepted. Certainly, there are many other local cuisines that are famous, such as Beijing Cuisine and Shanghai Cuisine.
Calypso cruise Halong-Vietnam holidays-Vietnam travel

The Vietnam Tourism Association has petitioned the Prime Minister for a mechanism to issue visas at a number of border gates and to continue exempting visas for visitors from seven key markets of the local tourism industry.
The association was earlier asked by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism for comments on a tentative plan to remove the visa-free policy for travelers from these seven countries, namely South Korea, Japan, Russia and four North European nations.
Besides, as visa issuance fee has been hiked to US$40 from the previous US$25 from the start of the year, the association's members are concerned that the stricter visa policy will narrow down the number of foreign visitors to Vietnam. They therefore called for loosening the visa policy.
The association insisted that the loosened visa policy previously adopted by the country has given a strong boost to the growth of international arrivals from major markets. The country last year welcomed up to 1.45 million tourists from Russia, South Korea and Japan alone, posting total revenues of around US$2 billion.
The local tourism industry contributed US$200 million of value added tax to State budget revenue last year, which is ascribable to some 80% of these travelers subject to the free-visa policy. Meanwhile, with the visa fee increase, the Government can collect only US$40-50 million, seen inconsiderable compared to the tourism revenues.
In fact, the visa-free policy has also led to a strong growth in the number of North European visitors to Vietnam in recent times.
"Stopping the special policy might negatively affect and pull down the number of visitors from these markets by at least 50%," the association remarked.
Since the end of last year, the information on visa issuance fee hike as well as a possibility of the Government removing the visa-free policy for certain markets has worried members in the tourism industry.
Echoing the association's view, most international tour operators are concerned that the number of international tourist arrivals will decline immediately if the nation's visa issuance policy is tightened again.
Nearly 6.85 million international visitors came to Vietnam last year, up over 13.8% year-on-year, with about 4.2 million visiting the country for tourism and relaxation purposes.
Many neighboring nations are rushing to loosen visa policy in a bid to lure travelers, with Singapore and Malaysia exempting visas for citizens of around 150 countries and territories.
Similarly, Thailand allows for the entry of foreigners of 55 countries into the nation without a visa while enhancing the issuance of visas at border gates as well.

The worship of Hung Kings, the founders of the Vietnamese nation, generates a source of strength for their offspring to overcome any difficulties and challenges in national building, State President Truong Tan Sang has said.

He made the remarks at a grand ceremony in the northern midland province of Phu Tho on April 13 to receive a UNESCO certificate of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity bestowed to the worship of Hung Kings.

The event coincided with the opening ceremony of the Hung Kings Temple Festival (or the fourth day of the third lunar month) which aims to honour the country's founders.

It was attended by Party, government and provincial officials along with representatives of UNESCO's Secretariat, 25 countries in the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee on implementing the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, among others.

Addressing the event, President Sang spoke highly the Phu Tho people's great contributions to preserving and promoting the values of the ritual.

He said as a spiritual ritual to pray for peace and prosperity for the country, the practice of worshipping Hung Kings also reminds the Vietnamese of constantly consolidating their unity and protecting and helping one another in different circumstances.

The ritual has become a cultural identity and a traditional moral standard of the Vietnamese. It shows gratitude the offspring have owed to the founders in the national construction and development course, Sang said.

After the certificate presence, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Tuan Anh called for join cooperation among relevant ministries and agencies to raise people's awareness on further preserving and promoting the values of the worshipping ritual as well as relic sites at the Hung Kings temple.

Phu Tho province alone has 181 relic sites dedicated to worshipping Hung Kings, the kings' family relatives and their commanders, while the figure is 1,471 nationwide.

The province has worked out a concrete plan to step up measures to conserve and uphold the precious values of the heritage.

Vietnamese legends recount the rule of the 18 Hung King dynasties during the first period of Vietnamese history, between 2879-258 BC.

The worshipping rituals are closely related to the worship of ancestors that is a tradition of most Vietnamese families and an important part of the people's spiritual lives.

The Worship of Hung Kings was recognised as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity at the seventh session of the UNESCO committee in Paris on December 6, 2012.

On April 14, an incense offering to Hung Kings was held at Kinh Thien palace, Hung Kings temple complex.
