    Erpenbach gets Walmart BFL win on Mississippi River

    Boater Curt Erpenbach of Anderson, Ind., earned $2,555 plus a $2,000 Ranger Cup bonus as winner of the July 9 BFL Illini Division event on the Mississippi River.

    Boater Curt Erpenbach of Anderson, Ind., fished a jig around current and caught a five-bass limit weighing 16 pounds, 5 ounces July 9 to win $4,555 in the BFL Illini Division tournament on the Mississippi River at Fort Madison.

    Brandon Depew of Odin, Ill., caught a five-bass limit weighing 14 pounds, 10 ounces to win $1,277 in the Co-angler Division.

    Coming up

    The next BFL Illini Division tournament is scheduled for Aug. 6 on the Ohio River in Golconda, Ill. After the fifth Illini Division tournament is complete, the top 40 boaters and 40 co-anglers based on point standings will qualify for the Oct. 20-22 Regional Championship on the Barren River in Scottsville, Ky. Boaters will compete for a top award of a Ranger 198VX with a 200-horsepower Evinrude or Mercury outboard and a Chevy pick-up, while co-anglers will fish for a new Ranger 198VX.
