EverStart Series - Championship
Kentucky Lake - Paris Landing (Oct. 27-30, 2011)
BUCHANAN, Tenn. — The EverStart Series is headed to Kentucky Lake Oct. 27-30 for the 2011 championship event. This tournament will feature the top 40 pros and 40 co-anglers from each of the five EverStart Series divisions. They are competing for a top award of up to $50,000 plus a Ranger 198VX bass boat with a 200-horsepower Evinrude or Mercury outboard in the Pro Division and a Ranger 177TR bass boat with a 90-horsepower Evinrude or Mercury outboard plus $5,000 in the Co-angler Division.
“This time of year the weather is going to play a big factor,” said Prevacid pro Dan Morehead of Paducah, Ky. “And conditions are going to change on a daily basis, meaning that anglers are going to have to be super-adaptable. We are having our first major cold front of the year move through right now, and from what I have seen, we are going to experience a gamut of conditions. I have seen reports that say the wind is going to be out of the south one day and the north the next. Anglers are really going to have to pay attention to the weather and be ready to make adjustments as conditions change.
“This should play into the hands of the locals,” Morehead went on to say. “The bass are going to be following the baitfish into the backs of coves and creeks anyway, and the changing weather will only scatter the fish more. The locals should have better knowledge of some of those hiding places and how to access them. Practice is probably going to be pretty crappy, but fishing should pick up as the tournament goes on.
“Conditions on the lake are pretty stable right now,” Morehead added. “We are about a foot below winter pool, and water temperatures are slightly above normal. Fall fishing is typically tough. The fish are scattered and in random places. I think the goal for this tournament should be to catch three big bites and then finish out your limit with whatever you can catch. It will probably take about 15 pounds of fish (daily) to win.”
Anglers will take off from Paris Landing State Park located at 16055 Highway 79 N. in Buchanan, Tenn., at 7 each morning. Thursday and Friday’s weigh-ins will also be held at the marina beginning at 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday’s weigh-ins will be held at Walmart located at 1210 Mineral Wells Ave. in Paris, Tenn., starting at 4 p.m. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.
Fans will be treated to the FLW Outdoors Expo at Walmart on Saturday and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. prior to the weigh-ins. The Expo provides the opportunity for fans to interact with professional anglers, ride Ranger boat simulators, enjoy interactive games, activities and giveaways provided by sponsors, and learn more about the sport of fishing and other outdoor activities. All activities are free and open to the public. There will be a free concert from the John Henry Band on Sunday at 3 p.m. on the FLW stage at Walmart prior to the final weigh-in.
The EverStart Series consists of five divisions – Central, Northern, Southeast, Texas and Western. Each division consists of four tournaments, and competitors were vying for valuable points in each division in order to earn the Strike King Angler of the Year title worth $5,000 for the pro and $2,000 for the co-angler plus a berth in the EverStart Series Championship.
The EverStart Series Championship on Kentucky Lake at Paris Landing is being hosted by Henry County Alliance.
