Watson is a native of Aurora, Missouri, who now resides in Waynesville, Missouri.
After graduating from high school in 1991, Watson enlisted as a soldier in the U.S. Army. He quickly established himself as an exceptional leader and was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant. After being honorably discharged in 2001, he went to work as a real estate sales agent. He soon opened his own office and has seen great success in the industry with over $75 million dollars in residential real estate sales. James is also an on-air radio personality with KCLQ in Missouri.
Watson started fishing the FLW Tour as a co-angler in 2009 and finished the season ranked 37th in the points race. This earned him a trip to the 2009 Forrest Wood Cup on the Three Rivers. He moved to the front of the boat the very next season and highlighted his season with a 16th-place finish on Fort Loudoun/Telico Lakes.
